There are some restaurants offering both Vietnamese food and some non-Vietnamese dishes. Mid Range hotels usually boast about offering at least some "Western" dishes, and smaller hotels and guesthouses will normally be able to offer at least something non-Vietnamese. However, do not expect it to be "just like Grandma used to make".
For the most pleasant weather, the best times to visit Sapa is March and May or mid-September to early December. While trips can be enjoyed year-round, the winters in Sapa get cold, with some fog and drizzle, and the summers have the hottest weather and higher chances of rain, with the rainy season starting in May through September.
Sapa is such a colourful town thanks to the H'mong and Dzao people from the local hill tribes who head into the town's market every day to trade their produce. There's a main market every Saturday when the place is packed but there's a lower key one every other day during the week.
Do not miss it anyway if you are staying here a saturday night.Young Red Dzao hill tribe used to come to Sapa to sing songs to the opposite sex. Girls sang the songs hidden in the dark, when a boy found them, and if they matched together, they disappeared into the forest for three days. Some of them got married after that.
Ta Phin is a picturesque thirty minute drive North of Sapa. Set within a valley with a towering mountain peak at one end, this village is alive with the daily life of the Kinh, Red Dao and Black Hmong people.
Lao Chai is a village of black H’Mong ethnic group.
Ta Van is a small village set within a picturesque valley not far from the northern Vietnamese mountain resort of Sa Pa. The area is renowned for its colourful ethnic minorities, and Ta Van is home to two such groups.
This vilalge is populated by the Tay minority. They were very welcoming and friendly towards people. Ban Ho Village, home to the Tay minorities and perhaps the most picturesque of the whole Challenge.
13 km away in the west from Sapa town, Thac Bac waterfall is formed by sources of water from the Lo Sui Tong mountain peak. From the distance, Silver Waterfall looks like a white dragon looking down from the sky.
The population of the Lào Cai province is a mosaic of ethnic groups. An incredible variety of peoples, some of them unique to Vietnam, are found on a relatively small area.
